The BJP Legislature Party in Odisha is set to meet on Tuesday to elect its leader and the state’s next Chief Minister, with the swearing-in ceremony scheduled for the following day. The BJP recently secured a majority by winning 78 out of 147 seats in the Odisha Assembly and clinching 20 out of 21 Lok Sabha seats in the state.Manmohan Samal, the state BJP president, is a strong contender for the Chief Minister’s position despite his narrow defeat in the Chandabali Assembly seat. Other potential candidates include former state BJP chief Suresh Pujari and Girish Murmu, who was Narendra Modi’s principal secretary during his tenure as Gujarat’s Chief Minister. However, there is speculation that the BJP leadership might choose an unexpected candidate, as seen previously in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh.Union ministers Rajnath Singh and Bhupendra Yadav have been appointed to oversee the selection process. Additionally, the party has planned a roadshow featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Bhubaneswar prior to the swearing-in ceremony.
