BJP In Uttar Pradesh Was A Surprise? Not So Much.

As Uttar Pradesh heads towards a clear victory after it’s first term, it’s important to look at some very important aspects owing to the voting system in UP. Uttar Pradesh is known well for not re-electing governments as after 1985, this will be the first time a ruling party will come back to power. Yogi Adityanath is set to return as the Chief Minister, presumably so, after he is leading in his constituency with over 80,000 votes.

But what indeed was surprising was the BJP winning in all eight seats in Lakhmipur Kheri where the infamous accident took place. BJP was also leading in Hathras as per early trends. The reporters on ground have been consistent about the fact that BJP was anyway set to come back to power as the double engine wave of Yogi and Modi continues.

The win can also be credited to the fact that the workers, karyakartas and the Chief Minister himself was seen on the ground for the entire term. The citizens resonated with him. Whereas Congress and Samajwadi Party began appearing only a few months before elections. This is also the same case with the Aam Admi Party winning such a big mandate in Punjab.
