Bhubaneswar : The State Transport Authority, Odisha today directed the police to act tough against violators of the Motor Vehicles Act rules. In an order, the transport authority asked police to seize the Driving Licenses of the offenders and forward the same to the concerned RTO within seven days for suspension of the license. The DL will be suspended for three months on commission of offences for first time.
This apart, the transport authority directed officials for submission of reports every month in connection with suspension of the DLs of the offenders. Subsequently the report will be sent to the Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety.
The recent decision of the State Transport Authority came after the Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety observed that the enforcement of traffic laws in the State continues to be poor. The committee also directed the RTO and the Police Wings to strictly implement its directions and suspend licenses of violators. It asked the State government to send quarterly reports in the prescribed proforma.
