New Delhi, May 31: Passengers on Air India Flight AI 183, en route to San Francisco, reported multiple fainting spells aboard the aircraft due to the absence of air conditioning during an over eight-hour delay. Initially scheduled to depart on Thursday afternoon, the flight is now expected to take off on Friday at 11 am, marking a delay of more than 20 hours.Journalist Shweta Punj highlighted the ordeal on X, noting that passengers were made to board the plane without air conditioning and later deplaned after some individuals fainted. Punj described the situation as “inhuman” and expressed disappointment over the airline’s management since its privatization. She reminisced about her previous experiences with Air India, mentioning how the airline was her preferred choice due to sentimental reasons despite its lack of luxury. Punj’s tweets detailed the chaotic experience, including passengers being shuttled to a hotel late at night, only to return to the airport by 8:00 am, and then being sent back to the hotel again.Criticizing the airline’s performance since the Tata Group took over in 2022, Punj suggested that such negligence could warrant legal action in other countries. She also drew parallels with broader consumer challenges in India, emphasizing the growing hardships faced by the middle class.
